Wildbirds

Wildbirds and Peacedrums with Voices (Sweden)

You might never heard of Wildbirds and Peacedrums with Voice before now, but after witnessing their haunting live performance you'll be asking yourself why.

The Swedish husband and wife duo of Andreas Werliin and Mariam Wallentin brought their latest album Rivers to WOMADelaide for Friday night and Saturday afternoon sets.

Wildbirds' reproduced their beautiful minimalist electronic style brilliantly on stage, creating an incredibly full, ambient sound from, for the most part, just a drum kit, steel drum and one microphone.

The cut down nature of the music allows the Werliin's masterful drumming to take pride of place next to Wallentin's superb vocals.  It's rare to have the opportunity to appreciate the skill and stand-alone quality of great drumming, but in this act Werliin gets to shine.

Accompaniment from the Adelaide Chorus Singers on several tracks layered the Wildbirds' live sound with deep, hypnotic chanting that sends shivers down the spine.

Closing to a well-deserved standing ovation, this performance has no doubt won them an army of new fans.
