Tim Rogers

Tim Rogers Small

Saliga - The Space Theatre. 11-13 June

The brainchild of Tim Rogers, founder of iconic Australian band You Am I, and his long time musical collaborator Melanie Robinson, ‘Saliga’ is an enthralling and diverse cabaret set featuring a highly talented seven-piece ensemble of guitars, piano, violin, cello, bass and drums.

Staged in the candelabra-lit Space Theatre, the show features a fantastic set that swings stylistically between moody blues, eclectic and rolling You Am I-style tunes, rocking gypsy folk, and dark sultry cabaret.

Though jointly composed, the performance is masterfully led by Rogers and dominated by his clever and constant conversation with the audience. In the role of our charismatic storyteller, he takes us on musical journey through the seven deadly sins, presenting an absorbing mix of personal anecdote, linguistic fact and lascivious humour that keeps the audience intrigued and entertained throughout.

Proving an apt stage for showcasing the depth and breadth of Roger's musical talent, other highlights include a soulful vocal performance from Robinson. It strikes you as a highly personal show, with Roger's external monologue both informative and cathartic as he shares his own many sins, surely the genesis for the show.

Sinful as it may be, Rogers should be supremely proud of Saliga. It stands out for originality and quality in a star-studded festival.
