Jersey Boys Announce Adelaide Tour

This week it was published by Adelaide Now that the Arts Minister John Hill will release dates and introduce the cast of The Jersey Boys at the InterContinental Hotel on Friday

Based on a true story, the show tells how four boys from the wrong side of the tracks became one of the biggest US pop sensations of all time.

The show features more than 20 hits from the group, which comprised Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi. Numbers include; Sherry, Oh What a Night, Big Girls Don't Cry, Rag Doll, and Can't Take My Eyes Off You.

Premiering on the 5th of October 2004 in San Diego, U.S.A, the show soon made it to Broadway in 2005. The 'jukebox' musical has music written by Bob Gaudio and lyrics by Bob Crewe, and in 2006 it was the winner of four Tony Awards, including best musical, best lighting design of a musical, and two best performer awards.

The show has since toured the world, and played to more than a million people in Melbourne in 2009, and Sydney in 2010. The next tour of the show will begin in Auckland on April 10 before going to Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

The Adelaide Now news article writes "The show dramatises the formation, rise and eventual break-up of the original four members of The Four Seasons, who hailed from the tough streets of New Jersey. Unlike many "jukebox musicals" that are built around existing song catalogues, Jersey Boys  tells a gritty real-life story of street gangs, jail time, rock'n'roll conflicts and personal tragedy."

A tour of The Jersey Boys to Adelaide had long been doubted, but following the successes of Wicked, testing the commitment of Adelaide audiences, this tour may mark a positive future for big budget musical tours to the state which regularly misses out - and often has to travel to the east coast to experience these Broadway style shows.
